King Crimson Last viewed: 11 hours ago

I saw the latest (and probably final) incarnation of King Crimson the other night and I still can't get my jaw off the floor.

They played lots of old material that they haven't done in years, such as "Lark's Tongues in Aspic, Part I" with sax taking the violin parts and "The Sailor's Tale" with Robert Fripp's trademark banjo-style solo. I could go on …

But what would probably be of most interest on this site is that they used three drummers set up at stage front: Pat Mastelotto, Gavin Harrison (out-of-this world solo during "21st Century Schizoid Man"), and Bill Rieflin (former REM sideman who also played mellotron). I was pretty skeptical about this going in, but they totally made it work.

The tour is almost over—there'e one show left in San Francisco and another in Seattle—but it's definitely worth a look.

I hope they do an international tour. Or at least release a video of this tour.

I've seen Gavin Harrison once with Porcupine Tree and once with O5ric and both times he kicked ass. Also he's a very humble person and a good clinician.

If I remember correctly Bill Rieflin played with Ministry before REM.

We had tickets booked for that show early last year in OZ... but they cancelled that tour for some reason... Maybe they'll get here eventually.

Cheers

Here's a soundcheck of the three drummers. The solo is cool, but how they worked together during songs was most impressive.

when i saw them on there starless white bible black tour the drummer from yes was with them he had a stage full of drums he'd walk around and play them btw trower warmed up for them this was 1971 at the auditorium in chitown

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Just doesn`t get much better than Robert Fripp arrangements and those three guys nailed a difficult piece of music with relative ease.Wish i could have seen this tour de` force.Awesome in every regard...

Damn I still need to see this band. I bet 21st Century Schizoid Man was awesome! One of my favourite tunes from them :D
