I saw those too, what a stunning set of drums !

I suspect that the walnut finish has been redone but besides that, I don’t see anything after market or missing.

Showroom condition.

Just checked these out.

Here is the scoop.

One owner, bought new in 1973 from Jack's drum shop in Boston.

Original walnut finish not refinished.

All original.

Amazing sounding.

Comes with hard cases.

Had to bring them home with me, couldn't leave behind.

Shot him a price and thought I got a great deal.

Now a proud Camco owner.

Congratulations DRUM69 !!!

You must be over the moon.

Glad to see this beauty went to a forum member.

Please post some more pictures if you can.

In the Camco LA catalog available on the vintage drum guide, you will see this configuration is not in there. (24”,16”,13”,12” + 5”COB SN) My Alice Cooper Blue Camco kit is exactly the same as yours so this set up was probably available as standard set.

A C-500 with 24” bass drum and COB snare.

What about the sound ?

They do sing, don’t they !

Awesome! Welcome to the club. It's the 1st LA era kit I've seen with a hi gloss walnut finish. That's fantastic to know they're completely original.

Thanks guys proud to have joined

Will get up some pictures hopefully soon

Drums were actually not even detailed and look great

What would be best to use to clean?

Also any particular heads of choice of current camco users

Oh yea. They sure do sing.they have Evans heads right now on them.

Supposedly the previous owner was a drum teacher and bought these when at Berkeley school of music with classmates Steve Smith and Vinnie C.

Thought it was a cool story.

Hi Stedi

The set is actually a 22" bass,16,13,12 and 5x14 cob snare.

Had to check was so excited didn't even measure the bass.

First time owning one , went because of all the great things I heard.

Now going to have to brush up on the history of these.

Of course anyone willing to talk about these I would love to hear it.

Wayne,

That’s odd. I counted 10 lugs so I immediately thought of 24”.

I recently refurbished an LA set with 22” bass drum and this one had 8 lugs.

For cleaning, I had good experience with Pledge furniture spray.

In my opinion the best heads for the LA Camco shells are coated single plies.

I have Remo Coated Ambassadors on top and Remo Ambassador clears on bottom.

On the bass drum, I like a coated Remo PSIII.

Cool story on the previous owner. It must have been Vinnie C. to talk him into Camco Drums. He was a big fan.

Others will chime in but I can tell you that Slingalud’s knowledge on LA Camoc drums is huge.
