From ElMoonlightDrummer

Mike,I have 2 of these tools and they are the best!I highly suggest all of you grab one. It has a regular drum key, slotted drum key, screwdriver, wing nut tightener and 7/16 wrench for consolette bolts. A must for any vintage drummer, I say.

got one recently myself aaron. they are worth it just for the wing nut portion alone! these were actually pretty uncommon. but the guy on ebay seems to have a deep stash of nos models.

From jazzbo

My modern Sonor keys work on my 1961 Premier Royal Ace piccolo .

I have a '60's Premier 14'' floor tom that I picked up for twenty bucks and the modern Sonor key that I posted a pic of fits the slots very well.

Believe it or else!

Well there you go! I have one similar to jazzbo's second key, that as he mentioned does not work.

Upon closer examination I see that the slot in the Sonor key that WILL work is a tad thicker and not recessed as far into the key body . It also appears to be a tiny bit shorter in length . Probably sell for $ 10/12 on Ebay ?

Here's a great little tip from ST Drums in Germany(great seller BTW). For key #2 from Jazzbo.

http://www.stdrums.de/

I have original slotted rods on a teardrop 13" tom and the L-shaped key from sonor does fit but I noticed one of the rods has a slot that is slightly off center and the key doesn't fit properly.

Look at your slots and see if they are all centered.

Like I said , the slot of key # 2 is more recessed into the post than that of key # which is why it won't work on the Premier rod - just doesn't match up . Key # 1 $ 10 on Ebay - I checked !

Maybe not a drum key ,but a gunsmiths/machineists screwdriver with changeable bits will work also. They have what's called hollow ground bits as oppose to tapered bits like in standard screwdriver. The difference is the hollow ground bit is straight, and not tapered.I'm sure the bits ar available individually.Just my 2 cents.
