Just picked up a one owner '66 ludwig kit :)

Hi guys. New to the forum here but I have been busy reading up....

Last week I drove up to Calgary AB, And picked up these sweet drums. A Black Diamond Pearl Ludwig Kit, 13,16,22 all the drums are stamped december 3rd, 1966. No extra holes, No re-paint on the hoops, everything original besides............ The wing nut on the tom bracket is incorrect, and the cymbal mount on the kick is missing the internals....All in all - very minor problems.

My question to all of you is: What one is correct? Should the tom bracket have a wing nut? Or a bolt one like my 70's kit?

The cymbal mount should have a wing nut correct? Would it be the same size as the floor tom bracket wing nuts?

Any help would be much appreciated.

All the best,

Justin

Like I said to adrianbe, that's the classiest wrap ever made. They just ooze "smoke-filled after-hours club". If Robert Mitchum played drums, he'd ply BDP Ludwigs. I don't know if you're old enough to know who he is, but I know that vintagemore is. If that set's one-owner, then he's old enough, too....marko

Spot-on. Just yesterday I was thinking that BDP is the ultimate dark-cellar-jazz-club finish. I'm about to wrap a snare in it, but I'm wishing I had enough to do the whole kit. :)

Kits:
1950s Gretsch Name Band in Midnight Blue Pearl (13/16/22/14sn)
1965/66 Ludwig Club Dates rewrapped in Black Diamond Pearl (12/15/20)

Looking at those pics again, I've been inspired to redo my '65/'66 Club Dates in BDP. (They're already a rewrap, so no harm in rewrapping them a second time. Hopefully I'll do a better job now that I've got some experience!)

I placed the wrap order tonight--can't wait to get started. Man, that is a classy finish. Your one-owner '66 Luddies are a great find! Congratulations.

Very nice, getting harder and harder to find kits that old with such few issues,I BDP is a finish that does not always photograph well,V's kit is one of the best internet pics of a bdp I have ever seen. But I always realize why I like the finish when I see a nice one in person.

Hi,

Gorgeous kits!

I agree, BDP is the "classy" wrap. It says smoky bar.

I thought I would throw this pic into the mix too, since it even has a cigarette burn on the top of the bass. Anyone surprised that the drummer on this kit rested his lit cigarette on the the top?

Pictured Ludwig BDP 20 key-stone,16 B&O,13 key stone and Black Beauty, Monroe badge. Black is back!
