Not a great score at all as I paid $850 including shipping . .. . but, I love these early 70's Ludwig shells. Four piece with matching serial numbers all in the 893,xxx range. 14x22, 8x12, 9x13 and 16x16. The only bummer is that the bass drum has faded more than the rest of the kit and their some light rust on the rims. All in all though, I cannot wait to get these cleaned up and played.Walking

So tell me again why scoring a vintage 70's Ludwig for $850 shipped isn't a score ??..LOL !

I wish deals like that existed up here in Canada..

No doubt eh? And while I may be rather an especial idiot, I paid $350 for my Club Dates, and this is what they looked like when I picked them up [pic].

Again, nice kit Verminator!

Drooool. I loved my 1976 SBP Luddies. I would still have them if it wasn't completely un-gigable at 13,14,16,18,24.

I don't understand your statement of "un-gigable".

They were just so massive that I couldn't use the entire kit at most venues. Plus not owning a van or large doored vehicle, the drums just didn't fit in a car, cases were definitely too big as well.

This was the late 70's early 80's. I owned a mustang coupe, and had to borrow mom's Cutlass. The bass drum barely fit though the door with the seat all the way up.

1964 Ludwig Downbeat Black Diamond Pearl (12,13,14,16,20)
1976 Ludwig Stainless Steel "Bop" (12,14,18)
1998 Ayotte "Ray Era" Wood Hoop Copper Sparkle (10,12,14,16,20)

I am speaking in relative terms. Let's face it, a lot of us use this forum to gloat about our awesome $cores. I know I do. I just wanted to put it out there right away that this purchase was way more about my affinity for the drums than a great $core.

Oh totally, as they say. I think we were just lamenting the situation up here, poking fun at ourselves...or I was anyway. More to be pitied than scorned hahaha.....not that you were scorning anyone. :)

The drums came and they are in far worse shape than described. All of the seems on the wrap have been reglued (poorly). There is light rust on every metal piece (not the occasional rust here and there) and there are two cigarette burns on the top of the bass drum. I would put this kit in "slightly above beater" condition. Fortunately guitar center has a great return policy. I would not pay more than $500 for this kit. Oh well. Tough week. The last kit I bought was the silver sparkle rogers that the dumb **** simply placed in a box with no packaging. The drums were ruined by the time they made it to me.
