I know we all like to brag about our awesome scores so I thought I would share a bit of the opposite end of the spectrum. I had to buy a kit out of need (had just sold two other kits and needed one asap). I have some shows coming up with no drums to play. I am not a big fan of modern drums so I wanted a Ludwig or Slingerland 4-5 piece for under $1000. I did not see much at Guitar Center, Craigslist but found a six piece early 70's Ludwig kit on ebay in the bowling ball blue finish (Oyster blue pearl I think). This has a 10x14 rack tom that was added later but did have a period correct Supraphonic snare drum. I paid $950 for this including shipping. There are some rust spots and the wrap is lifting at some spots as well. The 22, 12, 13, 16 and supra are all original to the set (pretty close on the all badges). Cool drums but I may have over paid a little bit.
Just an ok score!! Early 70's Ludwigs in Bowling Blue finish plus Supra
Dude, I don't think you overpaid at all. Those are nice, clear 3-ply Maple shells (great sounding drums,) and the 10"x14" is a bonus which adds more bottom end to the kit. If you're playing Rock & Roll gigs, those tubs will fill the bill.
They look sharp too! Nice buy.

Sweet!
Love the color! Here is my only drum kit, a bowling ball Oyster Blue Downbeat (12/14/20 - with matching Supra).

1970/71? Ludwig Downbeat in Blue Oyster Pearl

Those look great. I guess for ebay I did ok and it was free shipping. Like most of you, I typically only buy if the deal is smoking. If I put these on my local Craigslist, I would only get $700 for them. The St. Louis market is very soft on drums these days.
Jealous! That's my all time favorite of any Ludwig wrap. You got a very good deal. Not best of the year, but pretty good. Those will always hold their value if not increase over time..
You got a good deal with all the shipping cost, You did quite well.
Quick clarification. The 10x14 is from 1978 and has that weird rivet type stuff that holds the wrap on. The wrap is still on, but is coming off of those rivets. This drum does not have the 3 ply with re-rings either.

Nope 6 ply shell, This was a bad idea from ludwig vibrations from the wood shell and metal rivets don't get along.
The drum set was shipped to you for that price. I think that was a good deal for the five piece drum set. The sixth drum is probably a drum that you weren't really looking for, anyway. Just because you have it does not mean that you must use it. Other options are that you can sell it or keep it around for a parts donor.
got love the super classic look nice deal like them better than the hollywood ...gary
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp
once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
