Dude, just buy a bunch of drums and check em all out.All different brands, ages, shell lay-ups, etc, etc...Wade through them all, and then keep them.That's what's gonna happen anyhow.:D

Sounds like a pricy idea. But, depending on what your aim is, trial an error didn't deter Thomas Edison, either. Who knows what he spent. (If you have the $$ and room, then go with Kevins suggestion/prognosis.)

I would consider the music you like, the drummers and what they may have used. If you're still in a tie, try both. You can always sell/keep the one you like less.

I should be getting them in a few days. I'll post some pics then. But good point made about the fact that jazz can be played on many different kinds of kits...vintage, modern, different sizes, etc. No right answer when it comes to gear, but that's the great thing about jazz music...so long as you play it with heart and soul!
