This is a pic of my 3/4" cabinet door edge I just took, if you look close you can see the two super thin finnish plies on each end,..this is what I think I see on your drum. They are less than 1/32" thick, so you have to be careful counting plies, they can be very thin if hardwood.

The door also has the same marks, I`m now thinking they are from the router that made the handgrip edge.

If we're talking about 1920 or older you won't see 1/32" or thinner veneer on drum shells. That's a modern thing. I've seen many Leedy solid maple and mahogany shells from that time. I love them and think they sound great but a lot of guys don't like single tension setups so the value isn't huge.

thanks Steve I appreciate your knowledgeable help! the drum was factory painted white also so it seems unlikely that they would take the time to add a nice thin ply and then cover it up with paint.
How many finnishes were on the drum that were removed ?
