I agree. The big hole over the strainer is the giveaway.
I couldn't get a close up on the badge but the drum looks like one of those 1984 models when Ludwig was using bowtie lugs instead of the classic lugs.
Also -- the P85 is wrong for a 1984. It's a newer one. A 1984 model should have a P85 with the black background sticker (behind the Ludwig). Ludwig didn't change to the current P85 (no black background sticker with Ludwig embossed, like this drum has) until the mid 90s.
So, IMO there's no doubt this one's converted...

Was any of the opinions that you received state they believed it WASNT a conversion?
Another thing I spotted is the backing plate inside the shell for the Super sensitive strainer.
