Is a Supraphonic LM400 from the 70's with extra air holes a crime, I mean worth it. Last viewed: 3 hours ago

Nice to see you've started your "rustoration" (you should copyright that!). Wow, I've never seen a t-rod grooved down like that, or a hoop keyholed so badly. Previous owner must have been retensioning the head every time he played.I was hoping to hear some other suggestions from our experts for repairing those extra holes. I have a Supra which someone drilled to reposition the tone control. I've been looking for a good suggestion on how to fill the two extra holes.Good luck with yours, and keep updating the progress with some pics.Mike

Repair them cold. An old auto body guy showed me a trick they use on hard spots like window cladding and door ribs.

Your Supra is chromed and heat will destroy it.

For a drum hole, I recommend you get some fishing weights that crimp onto the line. The little round one`s. Lay the shell on a scrap piece of wood or hard plastic, drop a close to size weight into the hole, tap tap tap the lead into the hole and pay no attention to excess, it will polish out. If you take your time, use a ball peen hammer, you`ll get the hang of it quickly. The lead will expand and hold itself in, wont rattle and lead polishes to a shine with cloth but dulls over time so use liquid car wax to cover the shell.

Important to note,.... tap from inside the shell where the drill made a burr. maybe tap out the burr first. put a cloth between the shell and plastic or wood or whatever you use to lay the shell on. Do not use solder, you`ll have to hit it harder. use only cloth and plastic to sheer off extras. A razor blade if you`re very careful.

It sounds complicated and difficult but it`s actually long to explain and easy peezy to do.

Do not eat shell after for it now contains lead.

You may have to try it a couple times, hold your finger on the inside of the hole when polishing the outside.

Hey OddBall, I really appreciate your guidance. For the time being, I am going to let the holes be. I did remove some of the bur with some small ***elry cutters and some plastic tools. At least I won't cut my fingers on those holes anymore (that's another story).

Here is a picture of one of the holes looking a little better.

That was done with a hand drill, or water-let`r-out`er. High speed wont push in the shell like that. Sometimes if you lay the outside of the shell on a party balloon with sand in it you can work the indent out too. Sand is a movable solid surface. Use a wider rubber for that.

Lead don`t pack, but it does form into, so don`t try to use two or more pieces, slightly too big and remove extra.

Wonder is the weight of the lead might affect the sound more than those holes. Being that the aluminum is pretty light weight and that added weight might kill it more.

Here are pictures of the Maxwin kit I got with the snare. Sorry, I started taking it apart and cleaning it before I got pictures of the full kit.

It's 22x16, 13x9, and 16x16

It's missing the bass drum legs (anyone has some for sale?) and the tom arms.

Overall in really good condition. Really surprised how well the wrap has held up with the years.

And this is the 13" all cleaned up.

Little update on the snare. The hoop I purchased to replaced the one with keyholes was defective. It was the only one available in all the local music stores. It was a Gibraltar hoop, so I'll be calling them on Monday. So disappointed. The holes on the hoop are out of line and makes the tension rods too close to the rim and they won't go in the lugs at all because of this.

Otherwise she's looking much better now. I'll report back with any updates.

Hey everyone.

So I had a chance to "complete" the snare project. She's complete, but still missing some hoops and matching tension rods. I'm really happy the way is turning out. WAY better than what it was.

I took some before and after shots for everyone to enjoy.

What you think? Not too bad for a few hours of work.

With a serial number 2078966 and the badge with the pointy edges, what year would you say this snare is?
