ipod - horrible to use

O/T

My wife bought me a Classic ipod a few years ago. I gave it to my daughter because it's so difficult to use - proprietary-ship gone mad!

My grown daughter even hates it and between the two of us - with online help - we can't even use it.

The hoops you have to go through to use this piece of crap are absolutely amazing....with the signing up to itunes....to just trying to use the device...is other-worldy.

I think my wife paid $240 for it. I'm about ready to put it under the back tires of my new Subaru. Yes...that would give me some form of pleasure I guess.

I would never - upon pain of death - buy another Apple product. I hope they go broke and fall on their face.

There - my vent is over for the moment.

Apple stuff is ok and I use my IPad constantly to suf the net, but as far as transferring music and videos it sucks big time. No USB port, which would make it a breeze to transfer stuff, and no flash player which keeps me from watching posted videos unless they are already on youtube.

And you are correct about jumping through hoops with the iTunes b.s. I have to upload my music videos, and live performances to youtube then hope the venue I am trying to book has wireless to show them my performance. Or take my android tablet, which is much more user friendly. Now I can use my android phone to connect to the net if I happen to be out somewhere and need to show a agent or booker something on video.

I'm no fan of Apple. However, I do like my iPod. I agree about iTunes being a piece of strange cr*p and am very happy that I do not update my version of it, like my wife did, as it seems it doesn't get better.

I use my iPod almost daily. Sadly, this is how I listen to most music (on the tube), even though I have an excellent stereo and everything on the iPod on cd or vinyl. I don't find the iPod hard to use at all.

The problem I'm having is I can see my iPod on my pc (My Computer) and I can bring up iTunes on my pc - no problem. I have (my daughter has) thousands of tunes on iTunes on the pc...n problem. But, when we look in the File menu within iTunes on our PC and click on Devices.....the iPod DOES NOT APPEAR...everything in that drop menu is Ghosted out. Frustrating as hell. We've gone online to try to solve the problem...we've followed all instructions including completely removing iTunes from our PC and reinstalling....creating a new account and having that account VARIFIED via eMail just like we're suppose to do....but....the Devices folder within iTunes on the PC is Ghosted out. I'm not spending time with it for now anyway.

I haven't driven over the iPod as yet....but it may be coming...

I will aslo add.....we've tried Sync-ing too.........nothing works. It's like my pc from some reason does not want to Shop Apple.....

Gary - It's not the ipod, or the PC alone that is the problem.

You're going cross-platform between two different (and competing I might add,) operating systems!

Anytime you're going between a Mac product and a PC (Windows) you're going to run into glitches and problems. Mac writes code for the Mac Operating System and Microsoft writes code for Microsoft products. I think 'some' of the difficulty communicating across platforms may be there on purpose. Force the consumer to choose one exclusively over the other. On the ground, the reality is, a lot of frustrated customers.

Your ipod (although not perfect) is fine. So is your PC. Together? Not so good. You need to complain to -both- Macintosh and Microsoft to come up with some kind of Standard Code to facilitate cross-platform operations. They need a better 'language' for the operating systems to interact with each other.

I'm on my forth Mac. I'm a graphics pro. For my needs, there is nothing on the market that comes anywhere near it in terms of stability and ease of use. When I try to connect to my wife's PC... that's when the clown-show pulls into town!

Don't crush your ipod, Gary.

Yes - thanks John - I've heard about the incopatibilies of the two. I just thought.....once I had iTunes (apple product) downloaded onto my 'alien' pc that the iPod should at least pair up with iTunes whether or not I have iTunes on my pc or if I was using an Apple.

I know there is nothing like an Apple for graphics - i have friends that use them..........I'm tempted to go that rought for my next computer.

Apple should have stopped selling the iPod Classic when they came out with the iPod Touch. It does so much more for about the same money. I use my iPod Touch at work every day to read email, listen to tunes and internet radio while I'm working.

I got an iPad Mini at Christmas time. The screen on the iPod Touch is a kinda small for my worn out eyes. It is great for watching stuff on the internet while I sit in my recliner.

Apple is awesome, Microsoft not so much.
