Just thought you would find this interesting and also wondering if any of you have seen a P and an M stamp in a Slingerland drum like this one in my '58 bass drum. AUG 15 1958 was a Friday, so I guess the stamp guy was thinking about his gig that night.

That's pretty cool. I was a month a 2 days old when that pup was stamped.
Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.

Hey Glenn! That's cool! My mom said, "That's just a little younger than me." I'm a good son, so I said, "They still look real pretty too...just like you!" That happens to be the truth too.

Not knowing much about slingy`s , I wouldn`t know what the M or P-020 means but it definitly looks like the P-020 was stamped over the M.

P means it was slated to be wrapped. M means it was to be painted. This one was wrapped in marine pearl.
I guess that knowledge might have made this a little more interesting.

Since the wrapped drums were a price premium, I'm willing to bet the shell was slated for painting, then a pearl order came along, so they restamped it and finished it up. Is the wrap integrated into the plys? I'm sitting a foot from a cloud badge wmp kick shell and the wrap goes 5 inches into the ply layup.

That was one scenario I thought of. This shell was made after they stopped integrating wrap into the shell. The rack tom with the same date is the same way.

Indeed it would have !!
So the P is the type of finnish and the -020 is the color ?

I have seen this before. The "M" was the first stamp--the "M" stands for painted or stain shell. The "P" stands for plastic wrapped drum. They put a "P" over the "M" most likey the shell had a problem and would not look good with a painted or stain finish maybe a ding, small hair line cracks in outer ply of the shell? who knows...The best i can tell is that 020 stands for the plastic wrap in W.M.P.....Mikey
