Wow! That one's great and very affordable but I had problems with playback!!
So I bought this one (Tascam DR-07) at guitar center.
Works great, easy to use, playback with headphones or through external speaker or download to your laptop.

I can still play Star Wars, and the Kiski-Area fight song, on a recorder, if anyone wants to jam...........Cool Dude
Dude, your recorder is your cell phone, if you have bought a cell phone within the last couple years. You can use the voice recorder, or the video recorder. I have done this to listen to my creations, and it is perfect for what you are describing. Heck, I sat it on my second floor tom, I can't seem to get around to hitting anyways, and it didn't even sound bad there.
EDIT-- as this is an important jam session for you, perhaps do a dry run (hit record and blast away by yourself) with your cell phone, prior to the gig, to make sure I am not over-hyping this playback quality, if you were entertaining this at all.
