I'm Feeling The Pressure...What Do I Sell? Last viewed: 1 day ago

Loading...

So, I've sold off a few snares that I don't care much about and some assorted parts, but now I'm left with all "good" snares that I like to play/collect. That said, my wife is still pressing me to sell off more, so I thought I'd pose the question to see which you would sell if you were in the same position.

Here is what I have:

Candy Apple Red 1982 DB Tama Superstar 14 pc.

'59 Slingerland Radio King Red Glass Snare 14 x 5

'67 Slingerland Sound King 14 x 5 Snare

'73 Slingerland Super Sound King 14 x 5 Snare

'69 Rogers Chrome 5-Line Dyna Snare 14 x 5

'68 Rogers Dayton Chrome Powertone Snare 14 x 5

Tama Superstar Candy Apple Red Snare 14 x 6 1/2 w/ Muffler

Tama Superstar Candy Apple Red Snare 14 x 6 1/2 w/o Muffler

The Tama's go with my kit and are pretty rare, especially in their near new condition.

As I see it, there are two that are up for grabs - '68 Powertone and '67 Sound King. The SK is in beautiful condition top to bottom. The Powertone is nice, though chrome could be a little better on the shell.

I love them all...but sometimes need to make concessions for the peace of the household.Violin

What do you think?

ps: I hate to, but for the right price, I might consider letting go of one of my Tama snaresCryBaby

Thanks all.

If your wife is pressing you to sell your drums, I'd say it's time for a new wife.

Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....

if you're having a hard time because you like them all equally then sell the one you can get the most money for. If the others bring you just as much enjoyment then you end up getting more bang for your buck. That's what I do whan I have to decide, all things being equal ( sound for me being most important) I sell the drum that has the most monetary value.

I'd say sell the two you were leaning towards, or sell the wife OR start using pieces of you 14 pc kit as furniture. Floor Tom end tables, bass drum coffee table lol

Tough spot you're in and don't know what I'd do in that circumstance.

Best of luck with your tough choice.

If you don't mind my asking, is it a money issue or a space issue? If it were only a space issue, give the snares to a trusted friend to hold for you. Otherwise, those look like good options, and might be easier to re-add in the future than the Tamas.

Don't laugh, after my roommates moved out of my apartment in college, they took all their furniture with them, minus the odd chair and my bed. All I had was my 24/14/15/18 Super Mahogany kit, so I took the 18" floor tom, and I put my phone/answering machine on top of it as an end table. Seemed like a good idea at the time, but when either rang or switched on, the sympathetic thumps were enough to be heard all over the apartment. Paging Gene Krupa, indeed.

DOH Yeah, I know, I hear you all.

No, its not a matter of needing money and not "really" a space thing...its a perception issue...you know, perception is reality. My wife's perception is that I have too many snares. So, if I sell one, it may take the pressure off me and I can keep the others.

So, all things equal and maybe not a fair question, which would you sell....Rogers Powertone vs. Slingy Sound King...both around 67-68. I would be keeping my (love it) '69 Dyna and my newly restored '73 Super Sound king.

Just asking for opinions!

Sell the wife and her stuff . now you got the money and the room for more DRUMS . if you must get rid of some gear , keep the stuff that you like best and keep the drums that inspire you to play , and dump the rest , it's just like ripping off a plaster in one shot , it hurts but it's done ..

Let your wife choose between the two, and sell the one she wants you to keep :p

or...

hide them, buy two similar ones and sell those again, she'll think you sold two of your snares and maybe let's you buy a new one :p

No, serious now, If making a choise becomes to hard because your feelings get in the way, let faith decide and toss a coin!! That's what i would do...;)

Take the pressure off yourself.... whichever ones you sell, there will always be another one just like it or better available at a later date.
