Dag,
Looks like you may the venerable LS401. I can't see the color accurately (HDMI --> DVI adapter limitation). Ludwig has changed he number of plies in the "Classic Maple Snare" line-up over the years... but that can help place the manufacturing year.

Later catalogs are available on the Ludwig site:

Thanks for the info and sending the drumarchives links which I accasionally use, but cant find out about this wrapping, it has a gold/blue sparkle looks more like flames ...very unusual wrapping on a Ludwig snare, never seen it before.
The snare drum is a "marble"paint finish, made 1993-97.
Blue Marble I think?
They made 3-4 different colors, then pink was added by hand, with a sponge perhaps?
But the handmade finish was hard to match up when ordering add on drums for an outfit, and the finishes were pulled after a few years.
7 or 9 plies I think, "classic maple" type of shell.
Yep. Blue Marble. Early 90's. I think this finish is on the cover of the Ludwig Catalog circa 1994 or something.
I couldn't tell what color that was !!!
Here's a few catalog images for your reference...
They nailed it, Blue Marble
Wayne
Classic maple first appeared around 1997 so this drums is probably a classic snare. It should have six plies. They also made a super classic with 4 plys that was discontinued in the early 90's sometime. Might even be a date stamp in this drum.
All,
thanks for great help
