I Own Vintage Ludwigs - Dream Come True Last viewed: 2 hours ago

I always wanted a vintage Ludwig kit when I was growing up. I began playing the drums at age 12 in 1982, and quit when I was 16 when girls and cars became more important. My first set was a 4 piece Slingerland kit from the 60's but they were a joke back in the 80's when the big massive kits were the rage. I worked cutting grass and at the flea market and bought a 70's Pearl 11 piece fiberglass kit when I was 14. Sold my pearls to help finance my Camaro in 1985. Ever since I was young, I wanted a big set of Luddies but I could never afford them. As yall know, back in the 80's, Ludwigs were very $$$, especially for a teenager who purchased all of his own gear.

I started playing the drums again about 4 years ago, so I purchased a nice Tama StarClassic Performer kit. Great drums, but I really wanted that old school vibe. I have been looking for a large Ludwig kit for awhile and my search is now over.

I posted an earlier thread about the condition of these. All the bearing edges are in workable shape and the concert toms have the bearing edges cut so I can add lower hoops and lugs to them. The store has the hoops for the floor toms too. I thought those were missing.

Year is 1976 - Serial number 1267547 off the bass drum. I got some of the last Ludwig 3 plys.

I think I got a stellar deal at $849 shipped for the whole kit.

Congrats on the kit! You may have to stagger the lugs on the 10" tom, when adding the bottom hoops. There just isn't enough room.

Do you think I should add reso heads to the 6" and 8" toms? Not sure how much of a sound difference there will be with the little guys.

Who has the best prices on hoops, lugs, and tension rods?

What style lugs do I have? Classic or mini-classic? Ugghh, I am such a n00bDOH
