So a buddy of mine is going to sell his 1970's Slingerland kit and he came to me for some info on it. Im more of a earlier Slingerlands collector and not to much knowledge of the 70's kits they produced. I figured Id come to this site and ask the people who are knowledgeable in this department and who could tell me more about it and perhaps what might be a decent asking price for it. It does have the Niles badge and the snare pictured with the kit is his practice snare and goes with another kit.

Cool kit, though the concert toms will detract from the value. You'll want to take a close look at the wrap as well, as these are prone to scratching. All that said, it looks complete and original, and I haven't seen many with this particular finish. Early 70s 3 ply would also be more desirable than the later 70s with no re-rings.

This is an incredibly rare finish, & may command a price that is incomparable to the normal market.

After I posted this thread I went and did some research on it going thru the Slingerland history. Its a ''Pop Kit'' mid 70's. The wrap is in great condition with no lifting. My friend has had it for some time. Since he closed up his tiny shop in Kansas City Mo he felt he should try to get as much info on it so he can describe it to potential buyers.

If its at all possible,I would hang on to that kit.The reason being is that several drum campanys at this years NAMM show, were displaying kits with concert toms,Tama,and Canopus among them.Certainly heavyweights.If this catches on again,as it did in the 70's,those drums,coupled with that rare finish,will most certainly go for a lot more coin,than if you sell them now.:2Cents:
