I Finally Found the Snare I was Looking For - 1941 WMP 8x14 Ludwig & Ludwig "Super"

Loading...

That is one gorgeous hunk of drum! I -love- super-sensitives and the first thing I noticed was the metal cam that was later replaced by a white plastic one. They never should have switched that part of the strainer to plastic! The later version of that same strainer was notorious for breaking right there at the cam. I love the shell on yours. That thing is going to sound awesome. Love the drum, lots of mojo-rooty - great score.

Enjoy!

John

This Super sensitive strainer system is built like a tank...It is a little "sticky" at the moment, but, a little lubrication is all it needs...

Right now, this snare is the crown of my collection...I can't wait to properly clean and detail it...I'll just have to find the time...

Thanks again guys for your comments...

Cheers

> ...It is a little "sticky" at the moment,

If you've ever worked with this strainer before, I'd take it apart down to nuts and bolts and clean/detail each part individually. When you reassemble it, it should work smoothly. If you're not familiar with SS strainers, then a good general cleaning and a lube job will help. The 'best way' though is to strip it all down and then clean and lube. You can get into the channels and crevices with Q-tips and cleaners much better if it's in pieces. For lube, a wipe down of the parts that come into contact with each other with some WD-40 ought to be enough. You don't want to gunk up the works with anything heavier than WD-40. A wipe-down with 3-in-1 oil is ok too. Just don't use anything that'll thicken (gunk up,) as it dries out.

Sweet drum...

I don't have any experience with this type of strainer at all...I once owned a Pearl Jupiter, but, I traded it for a Slingy Hollywood Ace not long after I got it...

I will have a good look at it before I decide to disassemble it...I use 3 in 1 oil for most of my lubricating needs...

Thanks for the info, John...If I decide to tear the mechanism apart and have any difficulty or questions, I know where to turn to...

Cheers
