How late were Black Panther Ludwigs made? Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Loading...

With as late of an era set that is, I very highly doubt there's any chance of any other wrap under it. Heck, I own 16 Black Panther shelled drums myself and none have anything else under them. I don't care though. I like Black Panther just by itself!

Also, over the years I've heard about late era Black Panther power toms, but have never seen a picture of one before this thread. With a Modular Tom mount, too! I love it!

Well the email I received back from the seller informed me he sold these for quite a large sum. I think the entire conversation with this guy was BS as all his info was sketchy.

Regardless, I already have quite the Blank Panther Superbeat from 69 already. Thanks for all the help fellas.

I just purchased a Mod Orange set that had been previously wrapped in Black Panther- on it's way to Jack Lawton right now for clean up....it has the strongest Orange color I have ever seen on a set of this wrap.....

The orange usually holds up the best of the three colors, it's the yellow and particularly the purple that fade out.

I think the finish is Citrus Mod as BEC pointed out to me earlier in the thread ;)

Having been away from the forum for quite a while, I figured to check back in. Low & behold what's at the top of the page? My favorite subject of debate......Black Panther finish! :)

A few things to point out about BP........the mod finishes that may be hiding under BP would only be on 3-ply shells, not the later 6-ply like those in the first post, and they most likely would have been very early 70's at the newest. So please don't bother trying to "look" under a 6-ply for a rare mod finish. It just ain't there! ;)

The last catalog that BP was featured in was the '75-1 catalog. Now I personally have seen 6-ply BP on a couple of occasions, but they all seem to be from around 1979. These with the modular mount would put them to oldest 1980, as that was the first year for the Modular castings.....not the mount, as those came out in '78, but the actual castings as shown in the first post. Early modular mounts used the "classic" bass mount on both the bass and toms.

Could BP have been available as late as '83? Sure, but I personally haven't run across any yet. Hey, its Ludwig, anything is possible! :D

No, it's mod orange. This is the first time I have ever seen a set that was mod orange under black panther. It has always been citrus mod that I have seen.... until now.
