And Greg Potter!
How good is Max Roach!?! Last viewed: 3 hours ago
Greg Potter!!!??? He still has my Slingerland T-Shirt... and I want it back! He really does have it too. Funny thing is: I'm like 6' 1", and Greg is maybe 5'. How the heck can he even wear it??!! Unless maybe Cathy Rich wears it to, well... you know.

I for one, will always consider Buddy the best, there's really no comparison.
As far as I'm concerned you CAN"T compare Drummers or other musicians from this era in that way. Everyone was good in there own way and I'll tell you why, No 2 Drummers sounded the same. Every drummer had there own style. You could tell just by listening to them who they were. You knew when it was Buddy Rich, Max Roach Or Gene Krupa etc etc.
Even the rock guys had there own style. You knew when It was Ginger Baker, Ian Paice, Ringo Starr, or Keith Moon so on and so on.
Max Roach was Brilliant. His solo's weren't just solos. They had a story behind them. They were songs in a way. He was one of the few drummers who did it that way. His solos were not only technically Brilliant, they made you think.
Drums and drumming are a constant evolution and we will continue thro` history to be this way.Max,Buddy and everyone else learned from the guys before them, and those guys learned from the guys before them and on and on....There is no"best drummer in the world" in any style and Max was just one cog in the wheel of drum evolution. How good is Max Roach? Only as good as the best that came before him as he learned from those guys and stepped it up a notch and that`s drum evolution...

Who's says there is no "best" drummer, you? I say there is, his name was Buddy Rich, no one could do the things he did and drummers are still trying.
BTW, The Beatles are also the "best".
Okay now... here's the skinny on this particular thread/discussion:
1000% SUBJECTIVE to personal opinion.. ( like ALL discussions of this nature regardless of subject, be it music, sports, entertainment, art, etc., you name it ) .. and as such it's almost always going to degrade into an argument. There can be no winner.. loser.. right or wrong. It's literally one's personal opinion against another's opinion. Completely subjective. Best thing to do then is just let it lay, and thus we shall. I'll get the lights on the way out...
