as times gone by, 1983 my old 69 pearl kit shot gun style , throwing it in the back of the van at 3:00 in the morning, im all wore out just wanting to have breakfast and to go to sleep after playing 4 sets ...what bearing edges ? that last set ending with highway star kicked my ass

here, another one i moved from a house i was renting in 1971 left the kit took the wife and kid went north to find a real job ( she said )and walked in a music store 6 months later and there it was my old gretch set some one took a hammer to the old a's and and shells i just turned around and walked out i think i inadvertently did that to the kit by leaving it behind ,it was a sweet jazz kit to, silver sparkle that memory give me chills i was never the same after that so thats why maybe i covet my kits today im scarred for life after all the ones i lost destroyed or just left behind

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Went on a tour with my '89 Tama Granstar Customs and must have dinged

it a few times, mainly the bass drum. Probably stage/sound guys. Nothing

major, but a few years ago before I was into vintage drums and refurbishing,

I tried to touch up the gloss lacquer with some hobby paint. Needless to say

it didn't blend perfectly but did cover up the bare birch ply under there.

I gave up on trying to protect my bass drum hoop, just make sure it's always

in the same spots where the claws and kick pedal goes whenever I change

the heads, just something guys expect anyway unless your not a player.

I've never cracked any cymbals or dented any either, but last year

some super heavy 15'' Quick Beat hats totally fell over on the stand right

onto the basement cement floor. Didn't even phase those beasts, but

I was sweating bullets and the thought of finding some cracks. Damn,

those were some cool hats actually...

Not vintage, but I have repeatedly attempted to destroy my Roland VDrums. Hit them as hard as you want. They are indestructible.

Oops, I just remembered something stupid that I did to my first kit ever.

It was a nice 3 pc Niles badge silver sparkle Slingy, 13, 16, 22.

Man I was dumb, I heat gunned the original wrap off thinking I would

finish the shells with cleat coat or something, I think I was still in

high school. Man, I got the wrap off but got lazy and never got around

to clear coating it, but I did get all the glue residue off at least. Put

her all back together and kid of had it sitting on the side as I just

special ordered my '89 or '88 Tama Granstars. Few years went by

and I decided I wanted silver sparkle wrap back on those Slings,

so got some self stick wrap and went to town. Man, that was

some good wrap actually and it worked great. I don't even see

self adhesive wraps online anymore, just that sticker stuff and

the whole glue up stuff. What's really dumb is I sold the kit back

in the late 90's for 350 to some grunger dude back before Craigslist

was around, must have used the old fashioned want ads in the paper...

Wish I still had the Slingy with the original wrap, although I never

liked silver sparkle, but it sang! Least I know better now to not

screw around with collector grade vintage drums!

I'm scared to even have my flat bearing edges beveled on my

old WFL kit, and you guys also talked me out of trying to lighten

my WMP faded yellow on it too!
