Help - Rogers Dynasonic Last viewed: 4 hours ago

Loading...

Just picked up this Rogers Dyna-Sonic snare. It's the chrome and brass version. Unfortunately, it's missing the original snare frame, and it's got a Ludwig throw-off. Otherwise, it's in good condition, and just needs the rust polished off.

The serial number is 27253.

Can anyone date this drum? How much do these usually for?

Thanks in advance.

FYI-All Dynasonic were Chrome Over Brass=C.O.B. The snare frame is what makes the Dyna what it is, a very special snare drum. If the throw was drilled for replacement, that's unfortunate, but happens quite a bit. If you plan on keeping it, get a correct throw and the snare frame, then read up on how to set them up, which you can find a post on here.

Yours was made probably in Fullerton and somewhere around 1971 from all the info about the serial numbers that's been posted.

Well, BBK is right in there with a date of 1971, which does indeed make it Fullerton, CA production. It would be "earlier" Fullerton, but still CBS Fender ownership, and the quality was starting to slip. Still... it IS pre Big "R".. which is a bit better! Any extra holes with the Ludwig P83? If so, that will hurt value/resale. If not... install the proper Rogers parts and you will have a complete and ready to go 1971 Rogers COB Dynasonic! As is though... not a lot of value unfortunately.

I would be remiss to not include/mention Ploughman who is REALLY the Rogers authority! I am extremely well versed in Rogers Dynasonic snare drums.. ( all years ) .. as well as the drums/equipment played/endorsed by Buddy Rich irrespective of company... and of course Rogers falls into that catagory from 1960 to 1966.

I never cease to be amazed when I see an aftermarket throw off on a Rogers Snare drum. The Rogers Swivomatic was one of the most dependable, trouble free, almost bullet proof, idiot proof throw offs in the history of American drum manufacturing.

The extra holes cut your value, but dont really change the play of the drum. You need a solid top knob Swivomatic throwoff, and possibly butt, cant tell from the pics. And you need a top hoop, thats a Ludwig on your drum. Those parts, with frame and wires..... will possibly cost as much as 200.00.

Tommy............ Thank you.

I've heard these exist, but I've never actually seen one.

Thanks for your help, folks. I'll have to look into finding some parts to restore it. Sounds good as is though.

Yes, there are wood Dynas, I should of said "all metal Dyna were C.O.B., with a few wooden and fewer just brass"

And with that said...

I have two wood WMP Dynasonics: A 1966, and a 1967... they do indeed exisit! The '67 is my MAIN snare drum of choice and covers every style I need to play with aplomb... and then some!

oaklandrichie!...

I wanted to mention that with your Dynasonic set up in it's current configuration, it's not really a Dynasonic anymore, and won't sound like one either. Without the snare frame/wires and strainer, what you have now is in essence a 10 lug Powertone, to put a label on it. ( there wasn't ever a ten lug Powertone of course, but I'm just sayin' if there were ) Your drum will change COMPLETELY in it's response/sound with it's original parts back in place.. and .. I have to add that if you like the way it sounds/plays as is, then by all means keep it that way! But again, it really isn't a Dynasonic in it's present configuration, and... they are an aquired taste anyway. It takes some time to set them up correctly, but once that is done, they are like nothing else. Personally I favor the wood Dynasonics over the COB, but that is of course a totally subjective comment!

BBK!...

No apologies needed at all! I was just stating that The Ploughman knows Rogers drums across the board, whereas I tend to focus in the main area of the Dynasonic, as well as the BR endorsed models of the early to mid 60's. I of course appreciate your comments, friendship, and accolades!!
