Help needed with an Acrolite I just bought Last viewed: 4 hours ago

Very under rated....

Wow, not underrated in my experience.

I finally picked up a rescue Acro on CL (early '70's, anodized shell, liquidated from a school music program) just because every drum forum had people raving about them.

Also, last November, I played guitar in an orchestral piece for 100 electric guitars, one drummer, and one bassist, and the drummer was using an Acrolite. Over that din, his snare hits sounded like Zeus pitching thunderbolts.

My experience only goes back a couple of years, but there's a DRUM! magazine article that lists the 10 greatest snare drums of all time, and number 11, honorable mention, goes to the Acrolite.

The result of my purchase, BTW, is that I am now an Acrolite Acolyte. I tuned it up and did some recording, and the drum just kills.

The truism in the electric guitar world is that every player should have a Telecaster. Same thing goes for the Acro in the drum world.

I wish I still had a copy of that article; Harry Cangany wrote it. Lots of good info there. And the Acro certainly deserved mention.......marko
