Just picked this up for $25...but I can't figure out exactly what year/type this Ludwig snare is.

clues: 10 lug, no serial on the badge (gold "Made in Chicago" badge), blue ludalloy sticker on the inside...

Any thoughts/help?

This is a Transition 84ish Supra. We have seen a few of these lately. 10 lugs and chrome ludalloy shell always equals Supra, regardless the type of lug.

Welcome, and you got one helluva deal! No major pitting either.

Jon, Welcome to the VDF as Jonnistix has already stated yes Indeed you have a Ludwig model number 400 5x14" Supraphonic. it has a ludalloy shell, mostly aluminum, the transition period is when Ludwig Moved from Chicago to North Carolina which is my Home State! this is the most recorded snare drum on the planet! congratulations great drum great price!

Look underneath the hoop to see if a serial number isn't hiding at the top of the badge. Seems like more and more of these Supras with the acrolite lugs are showing up.

Yeah I looked - but no dice.

No serial anywhere...

Maybe it was a school drum, early issue Chicago large Keystone badge or something.. No rhyme or reason at times with the Ludwigs of this period.

From Jon Estes

Yeah I looked - but no dice.No serial anywhere...

Pull the top hoop and head off, I bet the serial number is at the top of the badge under the head's counterhoop......

Yeah, I already looked under the loop...no serial on the badge - just the Ludwig logo.
