Help Me ID this 1957 WFL snare Last viewed: 2 hours ago

Hello,

I would like to know anything I can about this drum. I'm curious if it is a Buddy Rich model.

The date stamped inside is March 12, 1957. It's 5x14.

There is also a hand-written letter "S" What does this mean?

It appears to have had the covering removed and an attempt at staining and clear-coating was attempted. The clear-coat has cracked and has produced a nice "shattered" look.

Or was this an available finish back then?

What is it worth?

There is no badge.

Someone told me is was NOB and did the magnet test on it. It did not stick!

I remeasured and it is a 5 x 14.

Do you know what the "S" stands for?

I guess yours is Buddy Rich model.

Check the '57 snare catalog.

My Transitional badge B.R model is signed by like Z letter instead of S.

Mine is 5.37". B.R model is not exact 5.5", IMO.

The WFL NOB B.R model's worth without badge and wrap is... Someone knows.

The clear-coat seems to cheap for a drum company but it looks great the way its cracked over the years.

Well, according to your info, the snare is '57.

So, Ludwig had provided blue, silver, white, black and gold lacquer at that age. It's difficult for me to define that's the authentic original color and finish. However, I guess your bottom hoop is original and NOB. Lugs also smell like NOB.

I looked closely and the top hoop is the same. Do you think its not like the bottom hoop?

Yuk, it sounds great.

If you see the top rim is the same with bottom, I think it is a NOB hoop as well.

For me, it's hard to tell from the pic.
