Help me confirm: 1964? lugewig bgb duco set w/ hardware & 22" WFL bass drum

Loading...

Hello all, long time lurker that just registered to share with you my most recent garage sale find, and ask your assistance with confirming my suspicions and possibly providing me with some advise on how to proceed with this kit.

I believe this to be a Ludwig 1965 Blue gray Blue Duco drum set. the badge on the bass drum has a serial number 11XXXX, which i read was 1964, or 1965 depending on the site.

The first issue i see is that the shells arent painted white on the inside (bass maybe) and the two toms (12" rack and 14" floor) dont have any badges, or a hole where a badge would have ever been, and the paint didnt wear or change color as much as the bass, which im sure is possible, but i dont know how likely. I have also been unable to verify the lugs as ludwig for the 2 toms which are in the center and take 2 long rods each from each head, and have no clue which model kit this would be.

There is also a 22" bass drum that is WFL as indicated on the bass drum hoop claws & the badge which has been crudely painted over. There is not serial number. It has what appear to be original calf skin heads on both sides, without holes, but ugly. I am unsure of the date, but the lugs are smaller that the ludwig bass lugs on the kit above.

I also got a blue sparkle ludwig seat, ludwig hi hat with ludwig written in cursive, a few rodgers bass pedals, and a bass pedal that has a y on it, original cow bell, tuneable wood block, holder for the 2 and some other items.

It included 2 snares, a wood 5.5 or 6 x 14 wfl snare with animal intestine? resonant head which is unfortuantly broken and a 5 or 5.5 x 14 metal snare with 8 lugs, which leads me to believe it is an acrolite.

I got 4 cymbals as well: 1 zildjian made in turkey 10"? splash with a 1" x 1/2" chunk out of the keyhole and a 10" constanople splash, plus a japan" sizzle cymbal and japan 18" crash ride in good condition for what they are. (not pictured)

Any help you may be able to provide in confirming what i have researched about this item would be very helpful.

I am also trying to see what other finishes this kit was sold in in 19654 or whatever year this kit is, as i am not to fond of the finish, and it is shot.

(I am having difficulty adding pictures at this time, I will try again later)

Hi,,Welcome too this great forum..Now onto your drums with out any photos posted i will tell you what i think..The first bass drum sounds like it's a 64-65 are the lugs single? this would be a "Club-Date" drum..On the tom's they do not sound like Ludwig.Ludwig's always had a badge on them. They sound like they maybe are Slingerland's with single center lug's what color of paint are the inside's they should be white it's Ludwig if Slingerland they would be a grey or milky tan color..If they are Slingerland with single lugs these drums are "Stage-Band" drums the toms only came in these size's 8x12,9x13.14x14,14x16..The only other thing i can think of is if they are Ludwig toms maybe someone painted them and re-moved the badges..Photo's would help on your question's..The W.F.L. bass drum would be for 1955-59 and should not be painted in side of the shell....Mikey

ive got a database of ludwig serial numbers and dates from that era. 11xxxx is usually a march 1965 drum. but with ludwig, there are always exceptions. sounds like you got some cool gear. would love to see pics.

The 20" bass looks like the club date, the 2 toms Re the slingerland ones, but would rhey have been sold withou badges or vent holes? Both toms are stamped m and month, 65
