hahahahaha...

The snare is worth $250/$350 depending on everything..

If it (the snare)has no serial (1970) then its closer to $600/700..right.!

I had one in my hands last yr that sold in 2sec flat for $800 Canadian..

Thats $820 American ,hahahaha had to put that in there..

The kit itself is easly $700/900 on its own..

The fact that its a matching kit with the snare / hardware/cyms..

and that its in eurupe..!

I'd say $1000 US for everything is an easy score..

*take a close look at all the cyms for zild or paiste stamps and any cracks..

Pls do them justice and clean them up and play them..Jumping2

Hey guys

Thank you so much for all the nice feedback.

How much would you guys say a kit like that is worth?

What would be your best estimate / narrowest price range?

My colleague will take measurements but I doubt she'll figure out what the date stamps are.

I've spotted this sold listing on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ludwig-Blue-Oyster-Pearl-Bowling-Ball-KIT-PERFECT-Condition-1970s-/190746151049?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c695b4889&nma=true&si=eJXI0duSAB2T8t9iE0d6jpgGmpI%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

Do you think "my" kit can be worth more than this?

I plan to offer 750 euros (sort of equivalent to an actual 750 dollars given market conditions and custom fees as a barrier to import from the US). What do you think?

I think the early 70s Ludwig blue oyster pearls are the prettiest of the versions - 60, 70s, and Guitar Center current club date. Nice kit. Still the black oyster is the one everyone wants and always be more valuable. There must be a million Beatles tribute band drummers by now ......

I don't think you'll get the maximum value of the kit because of the addition of the second rail mount. If you look at the bass drum it also has a bracket for the L arm cymbal holder. That means the drum originally only had 1 rail mount for a single mounted tom.If it was shipped from the factory as a hollywood model kit,it would have a double tom mount in the center of the bass drum, and no L arm mounting bracket.

I'm pretty certain that the bass drum was altered for original based on those two observations. These's also the possibility that the kit was ordered that way from the Ludwig factory, but I highly doubt it.

At any rate, they are some of the best sounding drums Ludwig ever made.

Thank you again to all of you guys.

I have ended up offering 800 €... Now, the seller will leave it go for 1000 € (which is, strictly speaking 1360 $, but again, 1000 € should be seen as being worth 1000 USD, more or less).

Not sure this is the best deal on earth....Hmmmm

Hey Moonweasel!Yep, my 5x14 is a Supra... and in wonderful condition! Just lucky! Also, as more evidence of shell date stamps vs badge serial numbers, note that my 9x13 has a date stamp 4 days earlier than my Supra, but a serial number more than 10,000 higher! Really proves the fact that the badges were literally tossed into a bin and grabbed at random!Mark

Mark,

Just so you know, my Supra is 8105XX. (Oct 3). Our serials are pretty close. My plating is absolutely perfect. Very lucky.

Happy to oblige .... '70 DownBeat... In person, the "bowling bowl" is much more striking and has a lot of pearl in it. It photographs horribly though, IMO.

Laurent,

I had a 1971 Ludwig kit almost identical to that one for a long time (without the 2nd tom mount) - white pearl instead of black. They really sounded killer! Don't have them anymore unfortunately.

I agree - 1000 is a good deal. 1360 is starting to get a little high but I don't think it's terrible - not sure what the climate is in Europe for these old Ludwigs. And yeah, it's always good to let people cool down - can't loose with that.

Good luck!

Hey guys

Ended up buying this kit.

My understanding is that these drums are way more rare in Europe than in the USA. These are pretty old and they're in a pretty good shape.

I still haven't heard back from them re: the dimensions of the drums and the inner stamps despite my repeated request and had to make a decision blindly somehow, in this regard at least...

So I'll have the pleasure to find out later on my own when I grab the kit.

I will also do my best at identifying everything about that kit and pricing it properly, as I'm not so sure I'll keep it long and want to have a good idea of how much it actually is worth.

I will keep in touch and let you know later once that kit is home.
