Hello and question on Ludwig and Rogers drums Last viewed: 10 hours ago

Loading...

Hi, I'm new to this forum, and don't know much about drums...

I have an old drum set (which I'm about to sell since my son

lost interest in drumming) and I was told that the bass drum (Ludwig)

and the floor tom (Rogers) may be collector's items?

If someone could help me to identify them and estimate their value

I would be very grateful. I cannot find any markings (except for

manufacturer's names) on them, i.e., no dates or serial numbers.

There are pictures of the drums on my SkyDrive

Best regards,

Leif

I'll leave the bass drum to others but the floor tom is what has come to be known as English Rogers. Rogers drums were made under license in the UK by Ajax 1961-67ish. Yours is Grey Ripple wrap and can be dated to 65-67

I assume that you are in the UK. English Rogers are not as well regarded as Rogers USA. Value with the bottom hoop missing £30 - £40 maybe. Possibly more if it still has it's logo (two small holes opposite the grommet hole).

I think the bass may be worth a lot more.

I'm assuming it is a 16"x16" floor tom. If it is a 14"x14" which it doesn't look like like it is then it would be worth more.

Dear Nutbox, Thanks for sharing your expertise on the Rogers tom!

Yes, you're right, it's a 16'' x 16'' . I'm in Sweden, not UK, though.

Concerning the bass drum, someone told me that it's probably

from the mid 60's since it is painted white inside.

Could someone give a second opinion on that?

Is it a Black Oyster wrap?

Best regards,

Leif

Hello Leif! That's a 60's, 20" Ludwig Black Oyster Pearl - the Ringo wrap. What snare and cymbals do you have with this kit - pictures?

English Rogers do appear to have been widely distributed in Scandinavia, Denmark, Holland. I have a set that was shipped from Sweden to the UK. Grey Ripple was the most popular wrap so if you list it on an auction site there may well be an owner who would like to add a second floor tom to his set.

Dear Nutbox and Apostrophe'

thanks for your answers

I've added some more pictures (link in original post)

The cymbal is a Paiste 302 18'' Crash/Ride

Can't find any markings on the 16'' hihat

The snare is a Maxwin

The the hihat pedal is Slingerland (Chicago, U.S.A.)

The bass pedal is Slingerland Super Speed, U.S.A.

Any ideas for a reasonable price for this equipment?

Best regards,

Leif

Leifpers, Sorry I can't help with a value on the other equipment. At the end of the day anything is only worth what someone is willing to pay at the time.

You have two choices -

1. List it as a playable set.

2. Break it up and sell the parts individually. This is more work but may maximise your selling price in the long run.

Look at it this way, as I say there may be an English Rogers owner who wants to add a floor tom to his set but isn't interested in buying the other parts that you have to sell, and someone might like the bass drum for his ludwig set. Both drums are projects or parts for someone.

I wouldn't normally advocate splitting up a set, but what you have there is a lot of different parts, but it would make a starter set for someone. Choice is yours.

The snare looks like a black panther copy. I have never heard of one like that. The bass is definatly Ludwig 60's
