Has anyone seen a very early Ludwig & Ludwig rectangular badge before?

Loading...

Hello,

I recently got an early, well-preserved Ludwig snare and am trying to find other examples of the rectangular badge/STAMP that's on it. It says "MADE BY // LUDWIG & LUDWIG // CHICAGO" and is in a rounded rectange. The drum seems like it might be 1911 or so, I'm not positive about that either.  But I have never seen the badge, and can't find another example documented anywhere, but was hoping someone here might have come across it, or even have another drum that also has this on it.

Please let me know, thanks in advance for any tips or replies, much appreciated!

(And thanks too for all on this forum over the years, although I never registered or posted, I have used several times in the past for help learning about vintage drums)

Also, I said "badge" but actually I meant STAMP -- I think this is probably a nickel-over-brass plate that has been stamped. What do you think? Have you seen this before on Ludwig drums? Would be very grateful if anyone else has seen it before.

I haven't seen that badge/plate before. I took a look through some older L&L catalogs from the 1920's and didn't see anything in there that looked like that. The earliest catalog I have is from 1922, but that leaves a big gap from where L&L actually started. The 1922 catalog showed this as image, but it looks more like something stamped directly into the shell rather than a badge/plate like your drum has. By '25-'27 they were using more familiar badging/stickers on their drums.

Thanks for looking, I appreciate the effort! -- yeah I think that drum in the catalog is close but like you said a little later than mine. Thanks again.
