It's not original. It's aftermarket.

I would expect it to have extra holes. Has it been rewrapped that grommet looks a bit suspect.

The grommet does look uplifted in the back, and the close up of the wrap it looks more like the cheapo vinyl stuff, as opposed to the harder plastic used on wraps back in the day. If you could get some interior photos of the drum that would be great. Value wise, it all depends too if the wrap is original or if this was also re-wrapped. So I can't make an accurate assessment.

That throw-off is not original, some cheap import style, also the snare butt is not correct or original either. Definitely a re-wrap. I don't recall that being an actual Gretsch color at the time, even though they did offer "satin flame" wraps. The badge grommet kind of tips it off as a re-wrap as well.

The extra hole may have been where the original drum key holder was. I know some Gretsch snare drums had that. What has me a tad interested is lack of extra holes around the strainer area. I expected at least one or two.

It could have been a stopsign badge shell. The basic model of throwoff was changed around that time to something that is similar to the Ludwig P-83. I bet that the hole spacing is the same on that import throwoff.

I do agree that the extra hole is for a drumkey holder. I think I have an extra one kicking around somewhere in my spare parts box from the Gretsch Dixieland restoration I did several years ago. If I remember correctly, the retainer clip was missing on it and that's why I replaced it on the Dixieland as I couldn't source a proper replacement for the retainer clip.

I can rummage for it if the OP is interested. If so, PM me about it. ;)
