Hi folks!
I'm new to the vintage drums. I'm going to check this drum out later and I was wondering if this is a fair price for it?
Thanks
Hi folks!
I'm new to the vintage drums. I'm going to check this drum out later and I was wondering if this is a fair price for it?
Thanks
pay them their asking price and go now ! deal and a half.
+1. I sure paid a lot more than that for the same model drum, and it's fantastic. Jump on this right away.
you better hope you get there before I do
:)
Yup. You might have a started a race.
As long as you're aware that it is a "Renown" model, not Gretsch's top-of-the-line snare with Micro strainer and adjustable tension butt. Also, the tone control knob is not correct.
Depending on the date/year of the drum, it might be factory original. I have a 50's bass drum with the exact same knob for the Pratt Tone Control.
Hopefully we will see more pictures of the actual drum soon. :) It could be a 3 ply with no silver sealer. But I'm guessing it has a label, since the seller listed the model number as a 4103. It has cast hoops, instead of the single flange stick choppers like earlier Renown snares. The 1961 catalog lists the Renown without tone control, so it might have been added later. Based on the CL pictures, the tone control looks like it's in the correct spot. The color of the bottom head hoop also looks like it might be an original reso head and the shell looks 6" deep too.
$200 is an awesome price. The only difference between the 4157 and the 4103 was the Micro strainer and the adjustable butt end. Everything else was the same. Not sure I would consider having the Micro-sensitive strainer as too much of a benefit. Because it also had it's set of issues like the throw-off handle coming loose and getting lost and it would accidentally disengage the wires. Both drums are going to sound the same and you can get the 4103 for significantly less today. Plus the one on CL is WMP and looks unfaded.
