Gretsch snare throwoff lever slips... Any advice? Last viewed: 3 hours ago

Loading...

I'm loving the sound of this matching Aqua Satin Flame snare that came with the kit I posted here recently. I'd love to take it out and gig with it but the snare throwoff lever gradually slips to the right when I'm playing it, until the snares eventually slip completely off. I'm not a particularly hard player, this happens even at low volumes over the course of 2-5 minutes playing. I've had this problem before with other snares but never this glaringly. Does anyone have a remedy for it? So annoying.

Drill for a p-85. I kid.

I have an old Ludwig that has that problem. I use a hair beret (rubber band) going from the arm to a tension rod.

From Rich K.

I have an old Ludwig that has that problem. I use a hair beret (rubber band) going from the arm to a tension rod.

That would obviously work to keep it in place but it's a brute force solution, and I do need to be able to turn it on and off quickly while playing.

Purchase an aftermarket Microsensitive strainer. An easy swap and works much better than the original. Safely store the original, should you ever decide to sell the drums.

I suppose I was hoping for some product from Home Depot that would add tension/reduce viscosity and slippage or something. That kind of thing would be useful for plenty of other applications as well; slippy guitar machine heads come to mind.

Nobody knows anything like this?

I can understand what you're talking about, but I'm not sure anything of this nature would fix the problem. Honestly, why not just purchase a new Microsensitive strainer?

Check one out here... [ame]http://www.ebay.com/itm/Gretsch-G5380-Microsensitive-Snare-Drum-Strainer-Factory-Replacement-Part-/261417807387?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cddb72e1b[/ame]

I usually see these for $88, so not quite sure if the price has gone up.

Also, check out this video by Steve Maxwell, demonstrating the strainer.

I agree that you should purchase a new Microsensitive. It solves your problem with no drilling of holes. The old strainer can be put back on easily if you ever want to sell it as original.

The new one is cool. Looks just like the original. Bolts on with the same holes. Has a little locking mechanism that locks it on but it releases easily when you need it to.

I dont have a solution, but have the same prob. Mine didnt do that until I oiled all the parts up. Maybe if you tried taking it apart and soaking it in soap itd get rid of enough oil to stick? I personally havent tried it on mine.
