Gretsch Silver Paint

Loading...

I was looking at my Gretsch Harlequin and noticed that the paint inside has a few spots that have runs in the paint and a few blotched spots. Is this normal for some of these?

Maybe it was repainted at one time.

I know when I painted my silver sealer it ran easily & I had to be very careful with it. I eventually used a soft lint-free cloth and rubbed it on.

I've never noticed runing on any of the new drums - including my Purewoods - they look like they were sprayed and the finish is flawless.

Yes, totally normal....it was the inside and they really didn't care about the looks of the interior paint as it wasn't on the outside finished product.

I agree, totally normal to see runs, thin spots, blotches, etc, of the silver sealer on any Gretsch drum made in the 70's or earlier. I'd actually be skeptical if I didn't see some of those imperfections on a vintage kit.

Thanks,

Bill

As usual, you Gents have been extremely helpful in my vintage drum education!

Thanks so much!

Yes,more normal to see in 1950's drums..........

I sold a late 50's G. 3 ply kit with a 24" BD to a guy in Japan eons ago,and he faxed me to say he thought the insides had been repainted,as there was some runs in it.

I told him no,that was normal,but I don't think he believed me.

Since this was pre-internet,he couldn't just look around like now.
