Okay Gretsch experts, take a look at the pics & tell me what your gut says about this wrap. Is it original or a rewrap? I'm going to look at them, but being that I'm not really familiar with Gretsch sparkle finishes, if it's a rewrap that was done really well, I might have a hard time telling whether or not it's original. Also, what do you think about the "upgraded" spurs in terms of collectibility?

First thing I would say is that those pixs aren't that great.
Second is that grommet looks wrong.
Third is I don't see any of the "alligator skin" that you see on old wrap sometimes.
Fourth is the wrap looks very shiny.
Rims mounts fail.
"Upgraded" anything is a fail.
How much does he want for them? :D
My vote is rewrap... agree w/ macr0w... that grommet isn't original and the wrap doesn't look correct.
I'll post a few photos. The guys said it was original. I have hope, but not much at this point. Where the wrap meets the bearing edges are kind of the tell-tale to me. The edges don't look like they're re-cut and the wrap looks like it was cut with the edge in the factory. I'm not a Gretsch expert though.
Big thing I see is the color difference between the inlays and the BD wrap. Ugh!

Looks like a pretty bad re-wrap to me, judging by the close-ups. In the very last pic, is that bearing edge normal for Gretsch? Rounded angle on the outside and straight down the inside... Probably fits the head nicely, but I'm no Gretsch expert.
I'd say the wrap is original. I've got a 1960s Gretsch kit in original champagne sparkle, and those look just like mine.

That is the 60's edge contour.
I can't call this one, it looks to me like it's possibly the original wrap with some material cut back in places to accommodate heads. That's not so uncommon. Color differences between the inlays and shell wrap are also very common on original wrap, I think they used different glue for each. Could also point to original inlays and rewrapped shells though.
