Gretsch Drum Set - 1940's or later??

Loading...

Hey Everyone ... I'm trying to figure out approximate year of this set and its worth. For starters, no FT.

It was gifted to me by a great uncle many years ago, who I believe played it in a military band (Korea?) The green/ivory paint is unusual and I've only seen it one other time on the interweb.

It has the single-tension rods on the bass, clamp-on spurs, tacked calfskin on the tom (w/o the skin), original heads on the bass (with the "Gretsch Broadkaster Professional Quality" logo barely visible, batter head has a hole) and it does have the original hi-hat and bass pedal. 22/12/14

Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It wouldn't be from the 40's with those style lugs. It could be from the 50's but this style of set hung around in the catalog for a while as a lower priced offering.

Thanks for the responses. Both of you were right on the money.

It's the Gretsch 'Reknown' Drum Outfit and my color scheme of 'Catalina Green' & Ivory came out in '58. It was marketed to beginners and 'budget-minded' schools ... ha!

I guess the cool thing is that it was my very first taste of drumming when I got it back around 1970 (when I was 8 yrs old). It peaked my interest enough that my parents bought me a 5pc Slingerland kit in '75 ... which I still have today ... which peaked the interest of my younger son .. who is now 19 yrs old and studying drumming at the Berklee College of Music.

Thanks again!
