Goofy Dynasonic String Question Last viewed: 16 hours ago

Hey, All!

First time poster here.

I have a goofy question maybe one of you Rogers Dynasonic experts can answer.

What the heck kind of string do I use for the snare frame? I've tried several different types that were thin enough to slide easily through the frame's holes but none of them last more than a couple of months. There must be a standard cord for these, no?

I generally use the replacement cords that come with Puresounds.. when I am doing a wire replacement. They are very dependable.

Other than that, I have had good results with mini blind cord.

My 1977 Big R Dynasonic still has the original string.

just check where the cord is touching the drum or rim etc for rough or sharp bits and either smooth them off or use a little tape under where the cord goes. Mine was breaking constantly and it was just chafing on a rough part of the rim. I just put a small piece of tape over the rough part and now it all seems fine.

Thanks for the tip, Fayray. I'll check for sharp edges.

And Ploughman, I never thought of mini-blind cord! When I got the frame for this drum, I tore my house apart looking for something that would work. I got them damned things on every window in my house and looked right past them. Thanks!

I've known people to use high-tension fishing line, too.

I usually run the string over wax too.......

If you can get some of the old Ludwig string they used to sell that is striped and coated. That seemed to work good.

I just purchased string from Ludwig that works great. As for the string breaking, it's possible that you have the strainer way too tight. When the Dynasonic is tuned correctly, there is very little tension on the string. Hope this helps.
