I purchased a rather interesting George Stone bass drum posted on the Boston Craigslist recently: a Mastercraft.
The drum has a most interesting internal tensioning system. The claws are connected to a coupling on the interior of the drum, and pass out through the shell through thin slits to engage the wood hoop. The coupling uses a pair of bevel gears to extend or retract the claws in response to clockwise or counterclockwise turning of the tuning key.
Rob Cook wrote up a Stone field drum, owned by David Huelsing, that uses this same tensioning system.
Questions: has anyone out there seen a George Stone drum with this tensioning system
Seasons Greetings.
