FOR SALE:

THE EARLIEST COB POWERTONE ON THE PLANET!

serial number #6 (1006)

I am selling Rogers COB Powertone serial number #6 (LABEL SAYS#1006) Rob Cooke told me that like the Dynas the first "1" is "silent" SO THAT MAKES THIS #6.

THE FIRST 5 POWERTONE SNARE DRUMS BEFORE THIS ONE WERE LIKELY WOOD SHELLS AS THEY WERE A LOT MORE POPULAR THEN....METAL SNARES WERE NOT IN VOGUE IN 1959-1960...PLUS OF THE 5 BEFORE THIS ONE...WE CAN ASSUME THAT THEY MAY HAVE BEEN PROTOTYPE/PRODUCTION HYBRIDS, OR WENT TO TOP ENDORSEES/ OR ROGERS VIP'S

I can not verify that this is the very first metal Powertone snare drum Rogers ever made, but NOBODY has one with an earlier serial number and the next closest ever reported was thousands AFTER this one. So it is defintly THE LOWEST SERIAL NUMBERED POWERTONE SNARE DRUM WOOD OR METAL SHELLED KNOWN ON THE PLANET SO FAR!

Considering that in 1960 most snares were wood, and the first 2-3 were likely protoypes, R&D or went to VIP or endorsees, BUT NO ROGERS POWERTONE SNARE DRUMS HAVE BEEN REPORTED THIS EARLY OR LOW SERIAL NUMBERED. this drum MAY be the first COB Powertone ever made? Either way it is #6 and very early. Tall hoops, B&B lugs, Clockface etc

SHE HAS HER SHARE OF SCRATCHES BUT LOOKS GREAT FOR A 55 YEAR OLD DRUM!

Happens to sound REALLY great too, VERY fat and brassy but semi dry at the same time.

Sounds perfectly EQ'd just as is. Your sound guy will love it! Its the perfect amount of dry, wet, brassy, warm, sensitive. So besides displaying it in your collection I guarantee that you will want to PLAY her a lot!

Very Historical and truly sounds amazing...FAT, BRASSY, DRY..very unique...because the shell is 100% brass, the lugs are too and I think the tall boy rims are also.

IT SOUNDS UNLIKE ANY OTHER vintage snare I have ever owned...I have had over 100 awesome vintage snare drums by Leedy, Gretsch, Slingerland, Rogers, Radio King, Ludwig... this one is very different and one of the top 3 I have ever owned or played anywhere!

Anyway I was considering finding her a home.
