Hi guys,

I came across the following website which provides a date guide for Ludwig Standards:

http://www.gretschdrumdatingguide.com/uploads/3/0/2/2/3022011/ludwig_standard_serial_number_dating_guide_paper_012813.pdf

Looks like a nice article and the first I've come across with date information for Standards. Well, hope this helps those struggling for Standard dates, like myself....If the article is correct, my Standard snare is a 1970.

James,

I am glad you found the paper useful. Please PM me with the serial number and other information about your drum (interior finish, script or block logo on throw and butt, etc...) and I will add your drum to the database of information that supports that paper.

Collecting information about the following for ongoing research projects:
Gretsch drums with serial numbers,
Ludwig Keystone and B/O badge drums with serial numbers and date stamps,
Ludwig Standards from 1968-73, and
Ludwigs with paper labels from 1971-72

Hi Rick,

Will do! Thanks so much for putting those dating guides and databases together. They are full of really detailed information - just a great resource!

So, my 5x14 Standard snare is SN #12505, has the white Resocoat painted interior and no discernible date stamp. Most likely early 1969?

Thanks so much for sharing this information! I'll be checking out a Standard kit this afternoon for a possible purchase. I was going in pretty much "blind" until I read this article. Greatly appreciated!
