For sale is a Vintage 1965 Ludwig Pioneer Snare in Red Sparkle with nickel hardware. Throw and butt appear to be chrome. Tunes up and plays great. Top hoop is nickel over brass, bottom hoop is nickel over steel. Shell is in-round. Wrap is tight with some wear and appears to be a rewrap as seam does not meet behind a lug and the original grommet looks to have been tampered with on the inside of the drum. Painted white interior looks original but no date stamp visible. Serial number is 223319. New Puresound wires and Remo heads.

nice looking snare. ive had a few original pioneers and jazz festivals in which the seam was not under a lug. to be sure about rewrap or not, check to see if the red is tucked into the shell at the scarf joint. that should tell you for sure. if its rewrapped, all the wrap will be on top of the shell with none going into the shell.

Mike - It appears to be a rewrap, because the wrap seems a little thicker than normal, and there is evident tampering with the grommet on the inside. The wrap doesn't seem to go into the scarf joint like normal, but this is only from looking at the bearing edge - haven't popped the head off yet.

Just popped the head off and definitely a rewrap. The little of the outer ply I can see appears to be maple, leading me to believe this guy may have started life with a coat of Duco paint.

At any rate, great sounding snare - make an offer!
