Fixing a cracked Vistalite Last viewed: 20 hours ago

I cracked my 12" smoke Vistalite concert tom really badly. All the way from the bottom diagonally to the mounting bracket. Can these be fixed or do I just need to find a new one?

Thanks!

I've been able to fix serious cracks twice by using CRAFTICS plastic acrylic solvent cement. It works great. You still see the crack but the shell is as strong as before. Google repairing vistalite shells. There is helpful info out there.

While we're on the vistalite topic, what percentage of 1970s vistalite will experience a crack at some point, provided the drums aren't abused? I'd love a vintage kit but am afraid of the cracking... thanks. Are the 2014 versions built better or same fashion as the vintage kits? If this is discussed elsewhere I apologize.

If it helps, I have 10 different drums on this set and I play it all the time. This particular drum had a very small crack at the mount but I figured it would be ok since I don't ever really move them, except when my mom vacuums the basement (which isn't that often). However when I played the other day it sounded weird so I looked and the crack spread all the way to the bottom.

All of my set is from 1977 so I don't know about the new drums.

1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
