I would just clean them up, leave the lugs alone, clean them right on the shell. Unless your good at fixing broken screws. I refurbished a Fibes fiberglass kit a while back and the screws were stubborn but did not break. Re wrap would be expensive and will lower the value of the drums considerably. But, if you dont care about re-sale or preserving them as original then go for it. Wish I could get mine to sound that good, maybe remo pinstripes are not the head to use.

I am wondering what you can clean that wrap with that will not disagree with the chrome lugs.

The 1970 catalog describes the wrap as "Buckskin (Vinyl/Suede)". You might have some luck looking at car cleaning products.

If it were me, I would remove the lugs. Maybe you could very slowly ease the other screw off a little ways and squirt a little penetrating oil in there. That will loosen it up.

You can get a reverse extractor bit to get the other broken screw. I can't tell what the wrap looks like, but I would definitely leave it as is if its in good shape!

Thanks all for the suggestions. I will look into some car cleaning stuff for the wrap . The lug screws are going to be tough. I first used a screwdriver to start removing the screws but I can tell I would strip some of them. I then found a socket wrench I could use and as soon as I started to turn them, theyd bust. I'll probably just painstakingly buff each one individually. Now I need to find a nice fiberglass snare to go with this kit. These drums are built like tanks and sound great.

You play very well, and they sound great. Congratulations on such a great find. Where did find these? I'm in the market for a '70s Fiberglass Fibes snare.

Thank you. This was a Craigslist pickup locally in Fredericksburg, VA. The guy had it in his basement and said he did not play the drums. Came with cymbals, throne, hardware and a Vintage chrome Tama snare drum that reminds me of a Supra.
