there has to be a way of bringing out the original color back on the wmps and silver pearls, i'm removing the hoops off the ol rk's and they must of never been off the drums the wmp is breathtaking about 1 1/2 inches off the ring, it looks like a stain line from the oxidation of the drums there has to be a way to bring that color back without rewraping ill try to find a way as a historic restoration/conservator of finishes i will find a way its just a shame some here says they did not rerap but wont share how they cleaned them hmmm makes u wonder if there is more than meets the eye crying2-07

that's why they make new drumsets in those swanky old wraps. EVERY drum company it seems has tried their hand at making a set that looks like Gene's or Buddy's weather or not they ever played that brand. to me old drums are cool because they are old drums. dusty discolored frosty nickle, pitted chrome, brownish gray coated heads, musty trap cases with dilapitaed leather straps, tape residue that is older than you, and if youre lucky dead spiders/insects.

I mean if you wanna re wrap a set find a really ratty one with extra holes and missing hardware and go for it.

If it's made it all these years unmolested and you re-wrap it cuz the wmp is yellowish you are really not preserving anything. you just make the next guy's original kit worth more.

there is plenty of parts available to build a new one to vintage specs. you could probably just buy one. just think that your drumset will likely be around longer than you will... (A depressing thought I know)

I don't rape my drums, let alone re-rape them. I love my drums, but I find it best to ask consent before stripping them, drilling into them, or even just hitting the skins...

I paid 64 dollars once for a WMP....... aged, yellowed, lovely tint of patina, 20-13-16 set of Stewart drums. They were beautiful, albeit...not desireable. And they were from that period that, besides weighing quite a bit, they had decent shells and edges. I gave another 20 bucks for a snare drum to match, also Stewart, and WMP. I played them out a couple times, since it seems like the general public is too stupid to know the difference between Ayotte Custom and a cheap set of Stewarts. They sounded decent with PS3 batters and ambassadors on bottom. I did notice a lot of comments by different people about how they looked. No one knocked the sound, all of the negative comments were on the shade of the finish. I gifted them off for Christmas to a young girl that had a lot of natural talent and not much in the way of family. The following year their house burned down, and the drums were damaged in the heat. Insurance paid her 25.00 for everything.

She sold them to some punk kid for three times what I had in them.... because that smokey, yellowed, slightly blistered finish was the coolest thing he had ever seen.

it aint broke, its vintage, it dont need fixin.
