Still curious on the value??? Don't know whether to sell or donate.
Hello, Koates.
Every week, I search Google for new posts where there is a possibility that a blue sparkle Torodor mounted tom may turn up. My latest search led me here.
Do your drums have the badges intact?
The kit you have, aside from the snare drum, is identical to the one I received for Christmas in 1972. I considered it my first "real" kit. The only difference is that the snare I had was the chrome version - not the matching blue sparkle that you have. I sold the set in 1980 when I moved out of my parent's house and into an apartment, and have regretted it ever since. I have slowly been reassembling a blue sparkle Torodor kit to match the one I gave up, and I am only missing the mounted tom at this point. If at any point you decide to sell the kit, please keep me in mind. While I only need the tom, I would be more than happy to purchase all of the drums if necessary, as they may be in better condition than the ones I have (assuming that the badges are intact). My 17 year old son, who is also a drummer, and I would be thrilled to finally have all of the pieces in place (minus the chrome snare, which I am sure will turn up eventually). Thanks and, again, please keep me in mind if you decide to part with them.
To GeorgiaB,
If you look closer at the pic, the snare I have is the chrome one. Unfortunately, the badges are off and I don't know what happened to them. It's been 40 yrs. I would like to have someone give me some sort of value on them. I am not a drummer and have no idea on the value of the kit.
I do see that you have the chrome snare - I must have been thinking about the photos of the matching sparkle snare that idrum4fun posted.
Unfortunately, I need a tom with the badge intact, so it sounds like I need to keep looking.
As for a value, your drums are worth very little to anyone other than someone, like me, who is trying to reclaim a piece of their childhood. I would think that, without the badges, the drums alone would not be worth more than $150 or so (and that is probably a stretch). They do pop up occasionally at auction, but I don't think I have ever seen a kit break the $200 mark, even as a 5 piece with intact badges.
Best of luck.
Ha ha ha, good one odball!
I got my gold sparkle TorODor kit used on Oct 26, 1976. It was a great day. I still have the kit and let my kids learn to play on those same drums.
Mine came the metal snare which I love.
Badges and drums used to pop up on eBay from time to time, but not too often. Then again I have not looked in quite a while.
