Early 60s Ludwig tom mount hardware question.... Last viewed: 6 hours ago

Loading...

Hi everyone,

I have an old Ludwig kit...22/18/14 I believe...the tom rail/holder on the bass drum is way off to the left.

I have seen adapters to enable better positioning but they seem to cater for the more modern type of tom mounts, ie a circular rod. My kit has the old flat plate diamond style.

I'm wondering if there's such a thing as a conversion kit which has the diamond plate with the more modern mount available?

Sorry if I'm using some vague terms...! Any advice would be greatly appreciated. :)

Just googling...this would work I guess if there's no converter available....

Thanks Magnus, :) (cool name! it's my brother's name btw!)

I have seen their site and it at least has a new version of my old consolette. The threads and grip are not great on mine.

Though it would still mean that the tom is quite far to the left though, no? I don't think it has any more adjustment than the original? Though maybe I'm wrong.

So far the choice looks like a direct replacement like that, or add the newer type of bracket via the lug converter thing and get the Atlas rail mount...

Familiarity with a rail consolette will enable the drummer to position the tom in many places relative to the bass drum. It's possible to use the rail over to your left, and position the tom in the center of the bass drum. Slide the upright piece toward the right side of the rail, and turn the flat blade of the spade in a different direction. A longer rod with a spade end also allows you many aditional positioning options. The grip issue can be remedied by one of a few different ways that have been discussed previously in this forum. If the threads you reference are on the bolt and nut to adjust the tilter, take the old nut and bolt to a good hardware store to shop for replacements that will work better.

The simplest fix for you might be to remove the bolt(s) and nut(s) that attach the rail to the bass drum at the far left of you. Swing the free end around to attach it closer to the center of your bass drum. If the empty hole(s) bother you, fill those holes with carriage bolts and the nust inside the bass drum.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.
