Did Rogers quit putting the spring on the tension adjustment

Screw during the Big R era ?

I'm talking about USA drums. I have a Big R no serial USA marked drum

That doesn't have the spring. My script drum does have the spring.

Thanks

I think a dyna no serial is an island music company snare drum. it is not a rogers snare drum and the lugs have a 2" center to center hole placement. not 1+ 7/8ths like the rest. they also have the knobs with a grey dot on the top of them. there maybe other ways to tell them apart, but since I avoid them. I don't know what they are. almost forgot to answer your question. I think there is a good chance these cheap knock offs had no spring.

Mine is a USA dyna 1 7/8 screw centers. I think it is a 80 or 81.

There was a short time that they didn't have serial numbers

But we're USA marked. The rogers book talks about this but nothin

I can find mentions the spring.

I'm gonna say no. I had a early 80's dyna and the muffler had a spring. Does it work ok with out it? I'm pretty sure I have extra spring if you need one.

The correct answer is NO.

The no serial number USA badge is from 1980-81. Early XP8 drums were serial ranged in the D six digit 95xxxx into the 96xxxx range, 1979-beginning of 80, spaning a period of approx. 4-5 months. No serial badges beginning 80 into 81. The next series of badges were RD six digit 96xxxx, 97xxxx, 98xxxx to the end of 82. Beginning 83 to the end D series six digit beginning at D100000 thru to approx. D125xxx.

The spring on the snare tension screw was never eliminated.
