Dumpster diving

OK I couldn't believe this. My best friend in Nashville found a Leedy snare drum in the trash. In the original case no heads or snares everything else was there. Beats my $5.00 67 Ludwig set.

This is for real.......

Chuck Scalia in Wisconsin found a whole set of early 40's, Top Hat And Cane Ludwigs in a dumpster outside an apartment!Excited

Worth around 15,000-20,000!

Oh-h...

Impossible to believe... it's shock really...

M-mm... I'm thinking now - maybe it will be useful to visit all the nearest dumpsters on every evening stroll ?? :D

I was already upset about us not having stuff like "yard sale". But I'm pretty sure I won't ever find a drum in the trash :(

Do you have pics? Pics are always cool :D

MrTurd:

I get your point! No yard sales here, either... but maybe I could check out some flea market... and I always make a quick glance into these big dumpsters...

Anyway, congratulations, tgregorek! Must feel great to save a piece of history like this!

My brother found some drum shells with all the lugs on them in a dumpster. They were very small shells.

12" snare, 8 and 10" toms and a 13" floor tom. He gave them to me and I converted a 16" floor tom into a bass drum and built a kids drum kit using the wrap your drums for 59.99 from ebay. The sparklebrite wrap.

They aren't worth much but they turned out really good.

Speaking of dumpster-diving........

Yamaha(haha) used to be based here for assembly of drums/pianos and who knows what else..........

I met a guy who used to work across the street from them on 2nd shift. So,every night, around 11 PM,he would drive up their drive to the dumpsters, and look inside.........

He ended up finding lower end drum shells with lugs on them 1/2 the time and barely used drum heads also!

He had a stack of 12",13",14",16's heads about 5 feet tall of EACH size in his apartment!

He was selling them for $1.00 each.......thats how I met him.

Also, a spare bedroom with all sorts of partial shells!

Yamahahaha finally ended up putting a big gate up so no one could get back there.

I'm afraid I have NO SHAME when it comes to dumpster diving.About 25-30 years ago Thoroughbred Music in Tampa cleared out its stock of used stands and pedals.I just happened to go to the store that day and see gleaming chrome in the open dumpster door.I went home with about 100 various sections, bases, pedal parts and rims.I still have and use the Premier snare stand I got from that dive! And it has not stopped since then.
