Drummers , who never played unamplified in rock bands in the 1960s in which the guitars, basses, and keyboards played through huge amps at high volume settings, have no idea of how hard the drummer needed to play just to be heard by the other players. This is not to mention having the drum heard by the audience. This photo is from a concert in 1966 where we played opening act for The Association.

That blue sparkle Camco set was the largest drum set I've ever owned. The configuration was 14x22 bass drum, two 9x13 mounted toms, 14x14 and 16x16 floor toms with a matching 5x14 snare drum. The drum set was too large for me. I never found my comfort zone. After a couple of years, I sold it to another local drummer who really wanted it. I replaced it with a 20-12-16-matching snare Slingerland set in the wrap that was solid black with occasional lilac-colored metal flakes.
Man, I hope that drum riser came with an elevator...
The two guys close together on guitars look like twins
That riser was a scary place to play drums. The venue kluged it together for this concert--not at my request. I never played on a riser taller than one step up from the stage floor.
Those two guys had been friends for several years--still are friends. The funny thing is that they're both named Rick.
No Way would I have sat way up there... looks very dodgy indeed...
