Slingerland RK's were not just single ply steam bent shelled drums, although many guys think that is the case! Over the years RK's have come to be known for that one trait, but that is in error. Case in point:

My 1967 Slingerland Radio King with three point and extended butt. This is a PLIED model, not the single ply steam bent, yet it is indeed every bit a Radio King and cataloged as such. This particular drum still appears as late as the 1976 Slingerland catalog, 51/2X14, model #143. My collection consists of Buddy Rich model snares/sets, but this one was a keeper as it sounds and plays GREAT... even though BR never played this model during his 2nd Slingerland endorsement period. Here's a pic of that drum!
