I would think that most of the drum's weight would be supported by it's bearing edge since the disc is 14" wide and should slide inside the hoop.

If you're concerned about buzzing the solution is very simple. Take a sheet of paper and cut it in half or thirds. Take that piece of paper and slide it in between the wires and bottom head and the drum will no longer buzz.

To kill the buzz I prefer a 1/2 sheet of a Bounty paper towel between the head and wires. If I spill my Scotch on my drum while I'm holding it upside down the Bounty quickly absorbs it ( Commercial insert, they're everywhere).
Actually, I first started doing this to stop the snares from buzzing on the 6+ hour trip to the Chicago Drum Show 22 years ago (Commercial insert, again).
Now if you really want to kill your buzz just spill all your Scotch on your drum.
Rogers once made the perfect drum to spill all your Scotch on.
On the other hand, I believe the previously discussed 14" x 1' styrofoam disc will easily kill any wire buzz. Will someone please buy these and let us know how thy work.
Oldschool, where did you get those cases? I'm going to make the 3 hr drive soon to Ikea. Here is an idea that I currently use to keep the drums quiet. Go to a craft store and get some of the wooden round discs that they sell. They are usually around 12 inches in diameter and an inch thick. They get some of the foam cabinet/ tool box liner. Cut to size and glue to disc. Set drum on disc. Lifts it off glass and keeps it quiet!!
Got 'em at IKEA.
